Signatures. For Esmé with Love and Squalor by JD Salinger
A large oversized limited edition book "For Esmé with Love and Squalor" was created using handmade Japanese paper, one side is gilded in gold. In the process of creating the books, pages were folded to create book signatures. The folded signatures were then ripped methodically down to the margin. The words are now a memory. Each signature is painted a color relating to the memory of the words that were removed. The altered signatures are mounted onto gold gilded panels. Resulting a recreated book form. The series of panels are iIlluminating, reflective, evoking memories of words, passages in books that have taken us to places spoken and unspoken. Ephemeral literary moments are translated into a multitude of colors or nostalgic words.
